In February, Allan Spisak and Karen Cofield, Directors with The Professional Home & Property Inspectors of Canada, along with 4 other Inspection Associations met with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services to discuss Licensing and the Regulation of Home Inspectors in Ontario.
The draft Regulations will be available for public input in the fall of 2018.
Once licensing is announced Home Inspectors will be given 18-24 months to meet the minimum standards.
This means that we are still 2 years away from all inspectors becoming licensed!
The most important agreement was that all inspectors will be required to:
pass a written exam
pass a practical test on a house ie TIPR
and have their report verified that it meets the Standard
We are not sure what Standard the Ministry will use.
Apply for your TIPR now!
Further, during discussions it was agreed by all that inspectors who have met the Governments requirements for licensing should be issued an Inspection License without any additional testing.
This is great news for PHPI inspectors that have passed their TIPR.
This also means that all inspectors should apply for their TIPR by completing the application and update PHPIC on:
your number of years of inspecting
number of inspections completed
all formal Home Inspector Education
So go to the PHPIC Application here and fill out the information and submit it to Admin@phpic.ca
There is no fee required as this is an info update only.
